It is a group for "Deafened" people.  These people were mostly born as hearing person but later become deaf.  I wasn't born hearin but I did
lost significant amount of hearin last May which is enough for me for not able to use my hearing aid effectively.

So I was introduced to this group by attending a Self-management course and they were pleased to hear my progression.  Since then, they have asked me to be a group leader because they want to set up a social group for deafened people in Leicester.

I went to Eastbourne for group leader training for 5 days near end of October.  It was chance for me to develop a new skills. By using these skills, I should able to arrange a social group outings such as cinemas, London trips, Shopping trips etc.

It will be free for members as it is funded by the government.  The problem is that this government funding will end in March 2004 and I will be in charge of fun-raising to keep my "project" going!

It is important to have social group being set up in Leicester or elsewhere.  In Leicester, there no support or guidance for people who just lost their hearing.  When they lost their hearing, their first obvious step is to see their GP.  The problem with GP, they are difficult to communicate with especially when they lost their hearing.

If these people is having trouble with coping with deafness life, they can join our social group and meet people with similar experiences.  They might even make new friends as well.

There is a chatroom you can access from this website.  This is a useful tool for deafened people who want to keep in touch with others.  They can exchange their life experiences and their advices to each others.
