D.E.L.T.A

First question you will probably ask is...."What is Delta?".

Well, first of all it is an abbrievation word D.E.L.T.A.  It stands for Deaf Education through Listening & Talking Assocation.  It is a charity organisation for helping parents with deaf children who want them to learn to listen and talk by providing information, advice and support.

I am one of the Young Deaf Adult Group. Or you could say a Delta Crew.  Below are some of the members of the crew (who is not shy to be on this webpage). Our Delta crew is very  important because it is good for parents to meet young youths like us as we show a positive attitude to life. We do not let our deafness get in the way as we can interact with hearing world too.

NEWFLASH!!

I am pleased to say that I have completed the Flora London Marathon on 18th April 2004 for DELTA.  Offically I have raised £593.89

Last June, I completed my BA (Hons) degree in Town and Country Planning at the University of the West of England, Bristol.  I got a 2.1 for my degree.  I was awarded two prizes; the Building Prize for an outstanding dissertation and the 'Ede & Ravenscroft Prize for Outstanding Personal Achievement 2002/2003", which was an award open to all students at the university.  I am now doing the fourth and final year of the four-year town planning programme; Master of Town Planning (MTP).  I will be taking part of the Erasmus exchange programme where I will be studying at the University of Nijmgen in the Netherlands for six months from January 2004.  And last year, I spent two months in Ghana, West Africa doing voluntary work as part of the National Deaf Children's Society - Jack Ashley Millennium Awards Scheme.  I was granted the Fellowship of the Millennium Awards.  Cool eh?!

Ambition: I want to be an international hearing-impaired star!

DELTA:

DELTA was founded in 1980 and I have been involved with them ever since (so I have been told).  I remember when I was a little boy my mum used to take me (and my sister) to strange places for a day or days - and there were children who were deaf just like me and she would leave me with them (she was giving talks to parents etc).  It wasn't when around 1996 when I came (back from the 'dead') to help out at DELTA's Loughborough Summer School that I have been helping out at DELTA ever since then.... I made some new deaf friends ever since.

DELTA:

I first got involved with DELTA at a summer school in Lancs 4 years ago.  Since then, I helped out at various events such as Reading Around Britain.  I like to help out, I think it's important to let people know that deaf people can talk and communicate just as well as any hearing people.

DELTA:
Must have been around 1996 when I was 16. I got involved because my teacher for the deaf Maria Jane told me all about how much fun it was and also it gave me an opportunity to meet other deaf people for the first time!! I have been to all the summer schools since then and have also done some exhibition work to promote them!
