The Full Story!!

I finally crossed the line!!  Yes, I did completed my first London Marathon in 5 hours and 42 minutes.  But it did not all go according to my plan!! Just a month before my marathon, I injured my right knee.  I was told to rest for 2 weeks but I started my training a week before the marathon. It wasnt an ideal preparation as it was proven in the race.

I ran well from the start and pretty too quick for my liking, for 10 miles in 1 hour 22 minutes. My knee was in a good shape. I was in my top form.....UNTIL I was on a verge of getting cramps or muscle pull on both legs! (I can't tell the difference between the two).  Oh my god, I thought that was it.  I had to pull out of the race. But due to huge public support and sponsor money in my mind, i just had to WALK through the pain barrier!! For walking, I averaged about 15-20 minutes a mile.  I took time out for going to a portable loo which had a long queue and also I massaged my legs myself with vaseline provided by St John Ambulance people.  Sometimes I put Vicks on my legs and I could see people laughing!

The public support is awesome. They made all the runners forget about the horrid weather, which was raining.  I was enjoying clapping their hand as I run along.  Also they keep giving sweets and drinks to anyone...especially Kit-Kat.."Take a break". I remember there was a drunken man near a pub shouting at me as I was walking due to my injury. He probably swore at me and got a knife in his pocket.  I assumed that he do not like lazy people walking.  He was sure looked frightening as I ran for couple of minutes!! He he.

I actually ran the last mile to make up for the lost time and I was pretty emotional in the end. I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to cross the line.  Any pain I was suffering is defintely worth it. All my legs and feet muscles were very stiff and now I am fully recovered.  I am proud and glad that I completed this marathon.  I would like to give a huge thanks to people who sponsored me. I wouldn't have done it without them.  I would urge everyone to try and train for next year marathon for DELTA.  I would love to beat my time by a one third next time.

Lovely to hear you finished the Marathon.  I have only ever watched it once (last year) when my friend and her husband ran together.  I agree with you, it was very emotional, even as a spectator.  I hope your injuries will be soon be cured and maybe you'll be in training for next year????
